The Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacau (Romania) , created in 1956, is one of the orchestras of Eastern Europe's most historic and tradition. His repertoire includes pieces of symphonic, vocal-symphonic and chamber music, ranging from the Renaissance and Baroque to the Classical and Romantic to the contemporary style.
The Philharmonic "Mihail Jora" has taken on tour in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Gibraltar, United States, Greece, Malta and Russia and has participated in many festivals including the prestigious Altamura Music Festival on the Green "and the twentieth anniversary of the "Beethoven Festival in the USA.
Festival is also organized in the same National Philharmonic: "Orpheus of Moldova", "Days of Music Contemporanca" and studio of the Young Composers. "
Among the 70 professors who currently play in the Orchestra of Bacau best form the Chamber Orchestra "Tescana" of 19 items. It stems from "Mihail Jora" also "Syrinx Trio, which won seven major international competitions and composed by Dorel flautusta Baicu from bassoonist Pavel Adrian Ionescu and Petrescu oboe.
For many years the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacau is invited to important national and international music competitions to accompany the semifinalists and finalists. In Italy accompanied the finalists in the "Concorso Città di Cantù", the "Valsesia Musica" and the International Competition of Musical Performance "Premio Città di Padova"
Orchestra "Mihail Jora" has also recorded CDs of his performances with record companies all over Europe among other Electrorecord the Romanian, the Italian Edi Pan Musical Together, the German Cadenza Music Production and the Swiss VD Gallo.
Ovidiu Balan, artistic director and conductor of the Orchestra "Mihail Jora" in Bucharest, he studied with Maestro Iosif Conta. It was later perfected in traveling Holland, France and the United States and studying with renowned conductors as Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Georg Solti, Pierre Boulez, Lorin Maazel, Jean Fournet, Marius Constant, Fernand Quattrocchi and Eugene Ormand.
Balan has conducted major orchestras in the United States, Cuba, Italy, Germany, France, Holland, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Russia, Portugal, Poland and Hungary.
He received the "ATM" for the interpretation of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the Art Critics Award for the interpretation of Romanian Contemporary Music, the prize of the Association of Journalists Bacau.
For his artistic merits and his career, the Maestro Ovidiu Balan received in 1982 the "Cultural Merit" in 1994 in the Republic of Moldova "Master of Arts in 2000 the "Silver Puncetto" City Varallo - Valsesia in Italy, in 2001 the "Honorary Citizenship" in Bacau.
